Re: Failed to download repository information

I had a similar problem, except that the repositories that failed to download aren't PPAs and (I suppose) seem more important:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Failed to fetch http:// -->

    ftp.se.debian.org/debian/dists/etch/main/source/Sources.gz
    ftp.se.debian.org/debian/dists/etch/non-free/source/Sources.gz
    ftp.se.debian.org/debian/dists/etch/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz
    ftp.se.debian.org/debian/dists/etch/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gz

    404 Not Found [IP: 130.239.18.163 80]
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm running 10.10 Maverick and didn't have any problems up until last week or so when this started happening.

Are these repositories important? Should I even worry about this?

    Thanks.

Re: Failed to download repository information

Why would you want Debian Etch repos in Maverick? I would disable them if I were you.

What are they? I didn't add them, they were just there.

Debian Etch is a different distro than Ubuntu, those repos are not going to be in any default Ubuntu installation. Are you running Ubuntu on your own computer?

Re: Failed to download repository information

I have been getting this too over the past few days, and although I have it temporarily "resolved" by commenting the problematic sources out of "sources.list," I feel as though there should be an actual answer for the sudden change. Mine are from the jaunty multiverse repos, which I don't remember downloading for anything but must have at some point- this laptop has only been loaded with Maverick and now Natty:

    W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.170 80]

    W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.170 80]

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Re: Failed to download repository information

I'm getting this too, but in my case it's a little weirder.

    Err http://ppa.launchpad.net maverick/main Sources
    404 Not Found
    Err http://ppa.launchpad.net maverick/main i386 Packages
    404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozilla-tea...rce/Sources.gz 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozilla-tea...86/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

I added the Mozilla PPAs the other day so I could update to Firefox 6, but now when I go into /etc/apt/sources.list they aren't even there, so I can't even comment them out.

Re: Failed to download repository information

PPAs are usually installed to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
