ubuntu 10.10 installation hangs

Hello everyone i am new to ubuntu and i am trying to install it to my laptop (hp-compaq). I followed every step in installation window and although i had the same problem as this user http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1643393 i finally made it. But after that and having continued installation normally install-window will disappear and then the system hangs. i pressed ctrl+alt f1 and the following message come up: (process:380) Glib-WARNING ** getpwuid_r():failed due to unknown user id (0).Could you plz help me thx you.

well i was bored waiting and shutdown the laptop now on start it hangs so i will reinstall it. if it works i will let y know if it doesnt i will go back to xp.

try the alternate install image and do an md5 check, then disk check on it.

thx for the advice i am reinstalling it now can i ask you a question? Is there a way to check if my cd is burned correctly?

ok when i burned it with img burn i checked verify so there is no problem with disk probably its a problem withe capitals in the username

did you download the alternate install and md5 check?
