Some apps not open correct position?

    Machine:
    AMD Athlon 5200 x2
    ATI Radeon HD3200

Just the 'stock' install from daily 12/26.
    Firefox opens and displays/positions correctly.
When I open Chrome or other apps they seem to get 'lost' or positioned to the upper left of the screen.
Just wondering what may be causing this

I have the same problem with some programs, I just grab the window and bunt the panel out of the way.

Oh good, well not so good, but any way is there some key shortcut to grab window as it seems to be hiding under top panel and I can't grab it that way
    Thanks

Have you got auto/intellihide turned on? If you haven't, you need to install compizconfig-settings-manager, then click the Unity icon which will open another page allowing you to turn it on.

You may, for the moment, possibly get 'better' window placement by setting it to random in ccsm -> Place Windows from the default of smart (or one of the other choices - forget if editing this this plugin crashes compiz or not, if so just logout/in
Or live with it as is

Thanks, that solved the issue but I can't make the window 'full' as the buttons are not there and windows are still hiding under the panel.
Sorry to bother with such an issue.

It's hard to tell from your screenshot if you have close/min/max buttons in the top panel. If you set the delay on the screenshot window to a couple of seconds, then the screenshot window won't show when you take a screenshot.

It 'appears' (as mentioned it's hard to tell), that you're running without the window decorator plugin or maybe it's crashed. (if not set than enabling in ccsm will most definitely crash compiz

Also appears you're running unity thru the classic login, I'd remove the bottom panel though probably not related to your current issue.

Even when things are working well it's not 100 % assured any particular bootup/login will go completely correct (at least here
Don't hesitant to do a logout/in, many times will correct, or a restart if nothing else works.

Going to leave alone for a bit.
I am using the 'Desktop Edition', not 'classic, no bottom panel.
If I try anything with compiz, yes it crashes.
    Thanks to all who replied
