    Medibuntu failed to fetch

    On running

    sudo apt-get update

    the terminal returned:

N: Ignoring file 'getdeb.list.bck' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
W: Failed to fetch http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/dis...eb/Release.gpg Something wicked happened resolving 'archive.getdeb.net:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname)

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.medibuntu.org/dists/...ck/Release.gpg Something wicked happened resolving 'packages.medibuntu.org:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname)

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

    What went wrong?
    How do I fix this?
How do I prevent this from happening in the future?

    Merry Christmas.

What version of Ubuntu are you running?

Have you updated your version of Ubuntu from 10.04 to 10.10, as that may account for these two repos not now working. You will need to update the repos for both medibuntu and getdeb again, I think.

For some users, theirs some issues with their DNS resolvers.

Check out the tutorial here -> http://openubuntu.com/index.php/topic,230.0.html

OK, but how do I do the Update? I ran Update Manager to get the errors I posted. I have previously run: sudo apt-get update. Thanks.

I'm using OpenDNS already. I'm not well versed in computer, but I am fairly sure this problem isn't about speed or access. Something is crossed up in the package management area. Thanks.

Just re-run the commands you ran before to enable the repos again; that should make sure that everything is set for the correct Ubuntu version.

I tried that, as you say, but apt-get returned the same errors.

Can you post the output of ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ ?
