linux installed on 1gb sd card

Hi I want to install a version of linux so that it will boot without any prompts from a 1gb sd card. I have bought my daughter a new i3 laptop and she is very anti LInux as a joke i would like it to boot direct to any distro but if possible ubuntu i don't want to touch the hdd as she would freak out.

Just install Ubuntu to the SD card just like you'd install it on an internal HDD. Choose manual partitioning and make sure Grub gets installed to the MBR of your SD card and not the internal HDD or you might be in trouble.

Or you can just create a persistent USB.

The problem is i only have a 1gb sd card available Ubuntu needs at least 2.4gb to install. I think puppy might work.

Or you can just create a startup disk for Ubuntu. The changes won't be permanent then.

Don't know much about puppy though.

Ubuntu Startup disk will start with a try Ubuntu / Install Ubuntu screen.
Puppy, after lot of scrolling words ends up with the puppy desktop, (once you get rid of the settings window).

I think I agree with Wilee though, practical jokes with someone else's computer may end up not such a good idea.
