Hi, someone gave me an old Acer 5601 laptop which i decided to give a second life installing ubuntu 10.10 on it

Everything is running just fine but the cpu fan. The cpu fan is not running until the laptop gets to 60 C. Then it kicks on for about 5 seconds until it reaches 55 and it's going on and on and on.

I tried to control the fan myself using the pwmconfig option, but i get:

/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed

I understand that the fans are controlled by the bios so i flashed it to a newer version and i got the same problem. Since it's an old acer laptop, there's is no options in the bios about the fan control.

Is there anyway i could override the acpi to control the fans myself

Thanks

Siver
