First please understand that this is not a
linux problem. It is the AA developers lack of sufficient support for linux that is the problem. Games that are well supperted on linux like Nexuiz, Sauerbraten, World of Padman, Doom3, Quake4, Alien Arena, Cold War, etc, etc, work about as well on linux as they do on Windows.
If you want to have a go at starting the game again, just rename the
.armyops directory in your home directory to
.armyops.bak. Then restart the game. This will create a new pristine
.armyops directory in your home directory with the default settings that should allow you to launch the game again.
You may also want to try running
gstreamer-properties in the terminal and set everything to alsa, so as to remove pulseaudio from the picture. Note that this will not remove pulseaudio. It will just set all (or most anyway) of your sound apps to alsa, where they should be!!!
Or better yet, remove pulseaudio by removing
pulseaudio and
gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio with apt-get or synaptic. Then run
gstreamer-properties and set everything to alsa.
If you are hell bent on removing AA (like I did, since it seemed rather uninspired and poorly supported on best), then just do this:
Code:
sudo rm -r /usr/local/games/armyops
sudo rm /usr/local/bin/armyops
rm ~/.armyops
And this will remove the game from your system.
NOTE: Be very careful with those rmcommands. Use TAB autocompletion to be sure you have the correct file or directory before you confirm by hitting enter.
Remember, files deleted from the terminal are banished for good! They do not go to the trash for easy retrieval.
There is little to fear if you run the commands as written. It also helps to make a not of where these source code apps install their wares.
Most of the time with linux games, the game will bo to: /usr/local/games/
And the executable will go to /usr/local/bin.
There are exceptions to this though. Just watch the installer as the game installs, or consult their documentation if their is any.
Write back if you need more help.
All in all, this game is rather disappointing for the linux enthusiast.
Oh, and don't use Wine if you can avoid it. There are many linux games, like the ones I mentioned in my last post, plus many more besides, that work
really, really well in linux. If you need more help with this, then ask away to find the BEST!!!!! linux games.
Many of the ones I have menrioned
