In all browsers tested (chrome, firefox, opera) streaming videos are extremely choppy making the videos almost not watchable. Anyone have any ideas where I can start? Ubuntu 12.04 on lenovo g575 with vision AMD. Thanks in advance.

Try downloading the videos to your hard drive and then playing with your favorite video player (totem, mplayer, vlc, etc). That is how I consistently get the best results.
Also look into whether you have installed the correct drivers for your AMD graphics; that will make a HUGE difference.

Can you give an example of one such stream? This would make it easier to advise any necessary changes.
You think that's air you're breathing now?
all videos that stream from the internet are choppy. I.e. youtube.
And videos from your hard drive are OK?
Yeah, those are fine.
Cool, glad I could help!
Yes, but the problem was never with videos on my hard drive. I am having issues with streaming videos and I can't figure out why. The drivers appear to be correctly installed but the choppiness remains.
