Help me learn Linux history and philosophy

Its been a year or so I am using Linux . Other 12 years I spent with Mac and Windows .

Now I am dead curios to learn how Linux developed ...?

People behind it are hobbiest or pro developers ...???

Where is Linus Torvalds . What he is doing now . provide link to his speeches , interviews etc about Linux .

I want to read about Linux in story-telling way not technical point of view .

I will really appreciate your help

Google is your friend. Lots of histories of gnulinux Stallman deserves a lot of the credit too even though he is maybe a bit to fanatical about free software.

There's both, but the lion's share of the real development on the kernel is done by professionals working for one of the big companies that use Linux, such as IBM, Intel or Red Hat. Linux is important for servers, which is why development gets funded.

    Who writes Linux?

In 2000 Linux wasn't really ready for average desktop users. It's only been in the last 5 years or so that there's really been a push at making it easy to use for everyone.

I've been running linux systems since 1998 and the difference between now and then is quite simply staggering. I can still remember manually configuring dial-up connections on the console all those years ago and creating shell scripts linked to desktop icons to handle manual stuff like mounting cds and so forth.
