Running MS apps using Wine

Ive just installed Wine, so that i can use som ms apps in ubuntu.
I have a MS Fat32 partition where i keep the apps.

Photoshop 6.0 runs fine.
Photoshop 7.0 runs kind of ok, but when trying to open files, ive got the following error:
"Could not complete your request because of a program error" !!
Any input?

Ive also been told that MS Office XP runs through Wine, but whenj trying to mount excel.exe for example, the following output occurs:
"IOPL not enabled"

Anyone with similar problems?

Re: Running MS apps using Wine

Hi

I've yet to run wine under Ubuntu but on my Slackware box I've got far more mileage out of wine by setting it up post install with sidenet:

http://sidenet.ddo.jp/winetips/config.html

Many windows apps will just fail under wine as it is still heavily under development but many will work & the number is growing all the time

Re: Running MS apps using Wine

I read somewhere that it's recommended to let Wine do a fake windows partition instead of running the apps from a current windows install. Try to actually install photoshop using Wine, just run the installer using Wine and tell us what happens.

Re: Running MS apps using Wine

I now got most of my ms apps running.
Havent used them much yet, but apparently everything is running quite well

I installed them on a fake windows partition.

Re: Running MS apps using Wine

I installed both Photoshop and Macromedia Studio 2004 Mx in wine just by inserting the cd into the drive and then after Ubuntu auto mounted and opened the cd window, I right clicked and selected (open with other program/application) selected wine and POOF!

I do have dual monitors so wine opens photoshop “un-maximized” filling both screens… that kinda desktop space just cant be bought.

What kind of neighborhood is heaven in if it needs Gates, and when will Bill be taking them Windows to go with it?
