Restart only logs out when another logged in

My problem: When there are more than 1 user logged in and I choose restart, it only logs me out to the GDM user selection screen. If I choose the restart option there, nothing happens. Sudo reboot works though. If only 1 user logged in, the reboot works fine.

I've been experiencing this same problem on 3 different computers - 64 bit desktop upgraded to 10.10, 32 bit laptop fresh install 10.10, and 32 bit laptop upgraded to 10.10. I didn't have this problem with 10.04.

After some time and updates coming through, this problem still persists. But now, once I'm at the GDM login screen, I can reboot whereas I couldn't even do that before.

You need to log the other person out before restarting.
This is to prevent work being lost, unsaved documents etc.
The above post definitely does not contain any sarcasm at all.
