    Re: Wubi megathread

I created a new disk in wubi using this method https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide#Ho...k_in_Ubuntu.3F

But how do I use the new virtual disk? When I check how much memory I have it says I still have the same amount.

But how do I use the new virtual disk? When I check how much memory I have it says I still have the same amount.
That code is equivalent to creating and formatting a partition. It doesn't mean you are using it. You could e.g. move /home to a separate virtual disk which frees up space on your root.disk, but there is a separate script to do this. Or you could resize your root.disk to make it bigger - again there's a separate script for this. If you just want to use your new virtual disk as a storage space, you could add an entry in /etc/fstab to mount it on startup - or mount it manually:
    Code:
    sudo mkdir /media/newdisk
    sudo mount -o loop /host/ubuntu/disks/newdisk.disk /media/newdisk
However, until you move data from your current install to the new virtual disk, you won't see any space freed up.

It's pretty risky using Wubi on a computer with dynamic disks. I don't advise it as linux isnt' aware of them. Whether this has anything to do with it not booting - well I doubt it. But you don't have any older kernels to boot either.

You could try hitting 'e' on the first entry, remove quiet splash and add nomodeset and then hit Ctrl+X to boot. See if there is a meaningful failure message. Or run the recovery instead, but edit that entry as well replacing 'single' with 'recovery nomodeset' before hitting Ctrl+X.

My advice - recover your data using an ubuntu cd or a tool like http://ext2read.blogspot.com/ and then uninstall Ubuntu. First get rid of the dynamic drives before dual booting, or use a virtual machine. If you were to e.g. create a new virtual disk on the /host you could easily destroy data if there were some hidden dynamic partitions that linux is unaware of.

    Re: Wubi megathread

After i removed quiet splash in Normal mode and recovery mode, it displayed
    Code:
    Loading initial ram disk....
After that I inserted an echo test command at the last line and it
displayed the echo message so i guess it didn't got stuck at initializing ram disk. Then i read this blog http://ubuntuliving.blogspot.com/201...-problems.html .
He has wubildr for 9.10. But anyways, i had previously taken a backup of wubildr files. So i tried with them but no change. Thanx

Thanx
    The 9.10 thing won't work anymore - it's just for 9.10.

I have no idea what's problem you have. But, in general with Wubi, you can try:
    1. 'chkdsk /r' from windows. You can run it using the 'drive tools' menu, select the drive that holds the \ubuntu directory (in your case probably C: and then reboot to complete)

    2. Run fsck from an Ubuntu CD or USB that you boot from (and select "Try Ubuntu"). In your case, you'd drop to a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run:
    Code:
    sudo mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
    sudo fsck -fv /mnt/ubuntu/disks/root.disk
(The -f option forces an fsck even if the filesystem appears clean, since in your case, the bootinfoscript didn't have a problem mounting and reading it. -v means "verbose output". You can also add -y to let fsck fix automatically)

    3. You have to chroot into the wubi install and try to repair it. This is required if e.g. your initrd.img is messed - and it could be based on the symptoms you are describing. This is a pain and might be an opportune moment to recover data and reinstall with a normal dual boot.

That's unfortunate. I use vmware (on one of my computers) and it works very well provided you have enough RAM - you just don't get the full graphics experience.
