Thanks bcbs and drs305! I used the GUI way of drs305, which also allowed me to remove some other trash. Worked perfecty! All the issues solved! Thanks very much again! D-E

I still prefer doing most things in a terminal but Ubuntu Tweak makes getting rid of kernels almost idiot-proof and it's hard to say that about anything!![]()
Hi
I have a clean install of Windows XP
I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 within Windows
I have tried installing from wubi
On boot up I get the option which OS to use
The windows option works fine
However when I take Ubuntu option I get a message that it could not find ISO/ubuntu/install/installation
I have tried pressing "e" and replacing the "quiet splash" with "nomodeset"
I have run chkdsk/r
Still no luck
My apologies if this problem has ben solved elsewhere in the forums but I have spent some time checking threads and cannot find a solution
I have also tried booting from live CD and installing
However I only get 2 options...Erase and use entire disc and specify partition manually. I dont have the third option that tutorials say I should have ....install alongside other operating system
I have also tried installing 10.4 from live CD and again only get the two options as with 10.10 above
I can get both 10.4 and 10.10 to run if I take the "Try Ubuntu without making changes to your computer"
Hope you can help. I have been trying for over a week now to get this installed
PS I am including the boot_info script results

@Steve Moss, it looks like bootinfoscript is unable to mount your ntfs partition under the nvidia raid. So that's like why the install is failing. I'm not sure what you can do about this.
Have a read of this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto and see if there's anything in there that makes sense.Mounting failed:
mount: unknown filesystem type ''
But it may simply be that your raid setup is not supported.
Steve Moss,
definitely read the link bcbc posted.
You could also try a regular install using the Alternate CD (also available on the regular download page for Ubuntu).
I recommend you go for a 10.04 install, not only because of the long term support, but also because the 10.10 installer has been known to wipe out Windows installs.

how to loop mount the root.disk
i opened terminal frm liveusb and entered
"gksu gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg"
tats all and grub.cfg window appeared, which is empty
It would help us if you could please do the following:
Boot the Ubuntu Live CD/USB. Choose the option "Try Ubuntu without any changes." Once the desktop loads come back here and do the following:
1. Download the boot info script. There is a link in my signature.
2. Once downloaded, move the boot info script to the desktop.
3. Open a terminal and run the command
This will create a RESULTS.txt file on the desktop. Paste the entire contents of that file back here in a new post. Once pasted highlight all text and click the # sign on the toolbar to place code tags around the text.Code:sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh
