    Question VPN network?

My goal is to be able to access a hard drive from my home network at first, after thats working I'd like to be able to connect to this drive from work / anywhere.

I've been told a VPN network is the way to go for this + some iphone compatibility?

I've got the VPN network working on an old computer I have running the latest Ubuntu server and now im trying to connect to it using my mac running OS x 10.6.4. I managed to get the connection working but i expected the drive to show up somewhere on my mac? (like an iDisk)

I'm not sure if i need to set something up on the VPN network or if this just isnt what a VPN is for at all?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it helps I used something called PPTPD to set up this whole thing?

    Howdy,

I would use SSH. It is a kind of ad-hoc VPN. Read the snailbook.
