Question kubuntu Lucid 10.04, Intel ALC889 sounds issues

I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard with the ALC889 onboard sound, running kubuntu 10.04, and I am not getting analog sound. Strangely, spdif is working great, but I need analog to work, too. I've been in alsamixer, nothing is muted. That's the extent of my troubleshooting knowledge for sound issues. If anyone can help, that would be great.

Need a little more info please.
Use the alsa-info-script to provide detailed information.
Run this command in a terminal:
    Code:
    wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh
Choose the upload option and provide a link for the output.

    You rebooted after?
What do you get for this:
    Code:
    cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

No, I didn't reboot, but I did reload alsa and restart X. I can try rebooting. I'll also post back with the contents of alsa-base.conf.

Re: kubuntu Lucid 10.04, Intel ALC889 sounds issues

I tried rebooting. Before the X server starts, I get a buzzing sound out of my speakers that are plugged into one of the analog jacks, but after the X server starts, that goes away and I have no analog sound. spdif is still working.

Here's my alsa-base.conf, the only line I added to it was the line for snd-hda-intel at the bottom, the rest has been there since the OS was installed.

    Code:
    sharkcohen@sharkdesk:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
    # autoloader aliases
    install sound-slot-0 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-0
    install sound-slot-1 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-1
    install sound-slot-2 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-2
    install sound-slot-3 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-3
    install sound-slot-4 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-4
    install sound-slot-5 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-5

Now I would suggest updating your alsa install. You can follow the link in my sig.
