"Press F2 to enter setup" interval too short

I was doing some maintenance today that required booting from a USB drive, and changing BIOS settings.

I kept missing the "Press F2 to enter setup" interval, because it's about one second long, and then having to wait several minutes for the USB boot to complete, so that I could reboot.

I enabled the "beep on boot" setting, but the beep sounds too late for the F2 key press.

Is there any way of lengthening the "F2 interval" to perhaps five seconds?

After you hit the reset button, just keep tapping the F2 key about 4 or 5 times a second.
Don't wait for a prompt.

I should also add that we've recently discovered a boot menu hidden in our laptops! If you press F1, it will give you a one-shot single override of the BIOS boot setting. Entry method is as described above, albeit by pressing F1.
