Switch ATA to AHCI in WildDog BIOS?

I noticed the other day that my System76 Wild Dog has the SATA emulation set to "ATA" (or similar, I didn't write it down) instead of AHCI.

    1) Is there a good reason for this?
    2) Can I switch to AHCI without having to reinstall and without corrupting anything? (It's a stock Sys76 Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, to which I just added a RAID1, which is when I noticed the BIOS setting.
