Question Unable to understand installing programs

I had downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 i386 on 24th nov. I use Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I mounted the image using magicdisc and installed it inside Windows. I am unable to install any program. The Wine program description showed that it is incompatible with i386. Also, whenever I try to install any game it asks me the password and then nothing happens. Even the history doesn't show any change. Is this due to installing inside Windows? I want to install Nokia pc suite in Ubuntu.
    Please help.
