    Ah awesome, thanks! That worked very well. I am going to try to do a regular install since wubi seems to have issues.

    Great! Glad you got that sorted out.

    Yes Wubi has some issues - to be more precise, it's grub+wubi causing most of the problems. Ironically I believe this latest grub update was specifically for wubi installs - a cosmetic update that didn't have any noticeable purpose, and it's caused nothing but problems.

    My personal recommendation is to install direct to partition if you're able. For those that cannot and choose Wubi, it's best to avoid updating packages grub-pc and grub-common.
