basic pakage broken

but am not sure
as when i tried this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebootstrapChroot it actually downloading the basic packages for the target system in my 64 bit install.

I am reading all your posts and will try to help where ever I can.

I mentioned earlier that I have no experience with chroot, so can't help

MAy i know what this will do

sudo debootstrap --arch i386 karmic /chroot/ http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu

will it download the entire karmic build on my system?

I tried
sudo debootstrap --arch i386 karmic /chroot/
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu

and looks like its downloading the entire repository again.....

I am looking at possiblities using an alternate CD and somehow trying to get it fixed

I finally installed The Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 and fixed my issue.Though i was unable to solve it.
