backing up your data on SD card

Hello I'm interested in hearing people's opinions on this before I make any decision about how to best store my data.

Now that I see 32GB SD cards cost less than $50USD, I am thinking of backing up some of my data on SD card instead of on the external hard drive. But I am wondering if SD cards are a reliable source of storing one's data. I mean I suppose it cannot get much worse than hard drives in terms of reliability, but I'm just wondering if there are some risks that I might not be aware of. I would think this idea will become more popular as the capacity of these memory cards expands, but does any of you guys have experience with it?

What are your thoughts Thanks in advance
