how to change Unity to Gnome?

    hmmm,

I've got 1010 Gnome on my desktop
and 1010 Unity on my netbook.

I don't want the framework of Unity right now.

how can I change my netbook to the 1010 Gnome desktop?

    thanks,

    Jim

Logout and at the bottom of the screen you should be given an option to use either Unity or Gnome. If Unity is the only session available, then you can go to Synaptic Package Manager and install Ubuntu-desktop (I don't know how to open SPM in Unity, you can use the Software Center which will list the Ubuntu-desktop as a technical item).

Synaptic is in the netbook edition also. However, you can choose gnome from the login screen as mentioned above.

Unity install comes with desktop version also.
Desktop version does not come with Unity.

    k, thanks.

my Asus EEE 1000 series is running 1010 Unity really slow, so I'm trying Gnome.

but is there a more rescource streamlined Linux that is still friendly for basic "my biger cell phone" work?

    thanks,

    Hi,

I just happened to run into your thread and thought I'd chip in.

I'm new to the netbook edition as well and I happen to be running Ubuntu Netbook on my Asus 1015PEM. I did not experience any slowdowns with Unity but I switched to Gnome as a personal preference.

    Cheers!

Re: how to change Unity to Gnome?

    Hello -

I have an ASUS eeePC 1015PE. I am now running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Kernel Release: 2.6.35-22-generic, Gnome 2.32.0. I formally had 10.10 net book remix installed, and I think I prefer the previous layout appearance.

Is there any easy way to change the version of "gnome" to the "unity" interface?

The main problem I have is that some programs don't actually fit the small screen, which is quite annoying.

    Thanks.

Checkout the scaling the display to 1024x786 (or bigger) tip:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC/Using
    That was left handed...

    Thanks.
If you installed netbook addition you have both at login click your user name
and look on bottom bar for arrow or button to switch between the 2.
If you installed desktop addition then:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install unity
    ## 11.04 Natty is different you get unity which is called Ubuntu and the gnome which is called Classic Desktop. Ubuntu is a Unity interface run by compiz now, but still in Beta and not stable. Is sure nice though and get them both on normal Desktop .iso download.
