    Question Best pocket web-browser device?

I'm in the market for a mobile web browser. By that, I mean something like an Ipod touch. So I'm here to seek the collective wisdom of my favorite geeky site. I want to be able to surf the web over wi-fi comfortably and quickly, play a few games, and watch videos on a pocket-size device with no cell contract. Is there a better option than an Ipod Touch? Maybe something running Droid?

    Thanks

Just to let you know, I've yet to see a device running android that wasn't a tablet or a phone, don't think there are any plans to make an iTouch like device running android either.

The Archos tablet seems to be quite popular amongst Android fans. In reality though, nothing really compares to the iPod Touch, IMHO. Though I'd like to see an Android alternative to it...

It would be nice to see an alternative, as long as it has has decent hardware.

The Samsung Galaxy Player is based off the Samsung Galaxy S smartphones. It looks to be the first noteworthy iPod touch competitor but is not yet for sell in the US. http://m.gizmodo.com/5670624/the-gal...oid-ipod-touch

Another option is buying an unlocked Android smartphone and using it without a SIM. Or you could jailbreak an iPod touch to make it a less restricted platform, but an iPod might not sync well with Ubuntu due to its encryption, and jailbreaking has its own issues (battery, stability, software update hassle).

Get it over with and get the touch. You can't beat it at the moment.

Thanks for all the info! Looks like the Touch is still the best bet.

And thanks for moving the thread, Sef. I suppose this question would come up a lot
