install lubuntu, but i cannot get to load lubuntu

i installed libuntu on a seprate disk besides a winxp install. The cd booted fine, installation went fine too, i think
After reboot i just get a blinking cursor, and after a while i get
error, no such device: be27471xxxxx
grub rescue>

what went wrong? when i boot from the cd all partitions look fine to me
When i unplug the lubuntu disk in order to run xp again, it doesn't boot either
