Webcam for Karmic Koala & Skype

Hello,

I'm interested in buying a webcam for laptop/desktop computer. I'm using Karmic Koala and I will be using Skype.

I would like suggestions for a webcam that works out of the box with Karmic Koala and Skype.

If possible, could you provide a link to an online reseller?

Hello,

I just bought a Logitech HD Webcam C270 (Device ID: 046d:0825). Works out-of-the box with Cheese and Skype. I bought it for $39.95 at RadioShack (in the US).

Hello there, I just read your post about the Logitech HD Webcam C270, and I was wondering; Did it really work with no problems without needing any tweaking? I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Sony AR71S laptop and I can't get the camera's microphone to work, it's not even appearing as an option on the skype panel. Any input would be a great help, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi,

You have to go to System>Preferences>Sound and choose the analog sound input (the USB microphone of your Webcam). See attached screenshot. Restart Skype if necessary. Then try your test call and it should work. Please post back to the forums (instant eMAIL notification) if it doesn't and we'll work it out.

Hi, I recently purchased this webcam to work with 11.10.

I'm also experiencing an issue where the camera's microphone isn't working. However, after following your attached screenshot, I've come to the realization that under "Input" in the sound settings, the only device that is listed is "Internal Audio Analog Stereo"

I've tested the video settings, and they seem to be working, but not the audio. Is there any known fixes in use for this webcam to work properly with 11.10?
