Desktop?

Hi, a friend showed he new linkbook to my wife yesterday, and my wife wants here laptop to have this launcher thingy as per the screenshot:

What is that launcher/dock/thing in the center?
Currently my wife is using awn, and that is fine, but she really wants that other thing.

but Im guessing you could achieve basically the same thing with AWN.

Just make the dock itself invisible,
and show only the icons,
and move it to the middle of the screen.
Though i guess it wouldnt be 'curved' like this.

a quick google says its "link os" based on ubuntu.

in the faq it says it's locked down, so you can't even install a different os. that sucks.

TNT1, the kubuntu netbook interface has launchers like that in the center. you can give that a try.

I've seen that before... I can't remember where though. I do believe that was done with a custom dock config? Cairo Dock or Awn ? I can't remember... Gah! It looks familiar; I think I've seen it on Youtube.

Now you've got me wanting to try and achieve the same effect using AWN. lol

I wouldnt care for a launcher like that myself.....
but am curious now to see if AWN could do it....

Ok, I downloaded the manual for that Linkbook, and they refer to it as a Carousel, some gogling makes me think it's a cairo dock effect...

I think you're right.
at least that seems the closest thing to it.

if you could position that to the middle of the screen,
maybe remove the dock background..
it looks like it'd be about the same.

Yeah, I assume you could edit the config file somewhere and position it in the middle of the screen?

The desktop itself looks like the Mezzo desktop (from Symphony OS), at least the panels & hotcorners look definitely like Mezzo.

Perhaps the launcher is some app from Symphony OS as well. It's been years since I last time tried that so I can't say for sure.

Symphony OS is (or at least was when I last time checked) based on Ubuntu, so that would fit.
