Hello, I'm having a devil of a time with this old IBM laptop, a 390E. I'm using Xubuntu 10.10. I try to use my SMC Easy-connect wireless card, which worked on the same model of laptop using an old version of OpenSUSE Linux, and the card is detected and nm-applet shows my wireless network and tries to connect using the card; however, as nm-applet is trying to connect, the computer always completely freezes while two red LED's, the ones furthest to the right on the display, flash on and off slowly. I don't know whether or not this issue has to do with an error message I get at startup saying Piix4_smbus module could corrupt the EEPROM and therefore will not be loaded. An ethernet card plugged into the same PCMCIA slot works just fine. Do I need the Piix4_smbus module in order to use the PCMCIA wireless? If so, are there alternatives?

Please help if you can.

Thank you.
