I recently installed 10.04. Dual boot with Vista. Was working great, but some time after Ubuntu installed nvidia drivers, my external monitor does not show anything while booting until I get to the Ubuntu login screen. I usually have my laptop lid closed, only using the external monitor. So it is annoying if I want to switch to Windows or see my BIOS. Plus I need to make it easy for my wife to switch back to Windows, or this is a deal breaker...

I can see everything if I open my laptop lid during the boot sequence. Before installing Ubuntu I never had this problem. It is a problem when I restart Windows too.

I can't find any monitor/video setting in my BIOS...

I've read it might have something to do with "X Window System". I used Ubuntu for a while a couple years ago, and never heard of this. Directions to adjust X settings are over my head...

Thanks (I'm pretty new to this, so detail is appreciated!)
