    WiFi issue in Ubuntu 10.10

    Hi.

I'm facing a strange problem after upgrading my Ubuntu to 10.10.
After I start up the system, the wifi is not getting connected by default ( which was getting connected automatically in the earlier version). So I right click on network manager and click on 'Enable Wireless' option and it gets connected. So far so good. Now I close the laptop lid - it goes to sleep mode and after it wakes up, the wifi never gets connected. When I right click on the network manager icon, the 'Enable Wireless' option is disabled! I have to reboot my machine to get connected!
    Here are the details:
    Code:
    Laptop : Lenovo U330
    lshw -C network output:
    *-network
           description: Wireless interface
product: PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection
           vendor: Intel Corporation
           physical id: 0
           bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0
           logical name: wlan0
           version: 00
           serial: 00:21:5d:0b:08:d6
           width: 64 bits
           clock: 33MHz
capabilities: bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
           configuration: broadcast=yes driver=iwlagn driverversion=2.6.35-22-generic firmware=8.24.2.12 ip=192.168.1.3 latency=0 multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abg
           resources: irq:46 memory:e4500000-e4501fff
Could someone guide me to fix this please. Thanks in advance.

    I think I found a solution:

    sudo rfkill unblock wifi

Hey, that worked! Thanks for that command
But isn't there any permanent fix for these two issues:
    1. Enable wireless automatically on startup
    2. Automatically connect to wireless rather than running the above command everytime system is back from sleep mode. (even after running the command, I've to right click on network manager icon and click on Enable Wireless option to get connected)

    physical id: 0
    bus info: pci@0000:07:00.0
    logical name: eth1
    version: 01
    serial: 00:26:82:2f:cb:45
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
    configuration: broadcast=yes driver=wl0 driverversion=5.60.48.36 ip=192.168.1.14 latency=0 multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bg

Re: WiFi issue in Ubuntu 10.10

Looks like we lost something from 10.04...

Lenovo U series with Intel 5100 AGN

Once enabled again (from link above) Wireless N connections are locking up
after a while. This device was working perfectly in current 10.04 with all
updates. It seems stable on G connections. I saw this exact behavior on
    earlier versions of 10.04

Anyone know if there is a "backports" package that will fix it for now?
