I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick on a Asus Netbook and I'd like to increase the screen resolution to 1024x768 or something similar. I've been trying for weeks to get it running and haven't had any luck.

My graphics controller is the Intel(r)915GM/910ML/915MS.

It seems that there was a simple solution for older versions of Ubuntu to get the propitiatory Intel drivers by going into Synaptic and installing 915resolution, but that seems to have disappeared from the repositories.

I've tried using xrandr and from running ddcprobe, I can see that 1280x1024 and 1024x768 are both supported. There doesn't seem to be specific instructions for my hardware. After getting innumerable error messages, I've kind of given up on that.

I'm not a total noob at this, but I'm not an expert in this arena by any means. If someone could help me out, it would be hugely appreciated.
