Warning: Venting post ahead!
So, I was going to record a short video of a running program using SnagIt on my girlfriend's Windows 7 computer. No problem, I've done that before. I first did a couple of test recordings to check if the encoding was as I last set it. Seemed fine. So I started recording a 3 minute video. But when SnagIt had encoded it, for some reason only the first 40 seconds or so were recorded. Weird. So I just recorded the video again. But this time, SnagIt popped up with a box telling me the format or encoding of the file could not be recognized. Double weird, since I just recorded some test videos with no problem and haven't changed any settings. So, I did the recording a third time... and again SnagIt complained about not recognizing the file format or encoding or something. And not only that, now Windows 7 completely locked up. CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't do anything. I had to press the power button for 20 seconds or so before the computer restarted... and then stopped booting. Windows now wouldn't load at all. So I chose the "startup repair" option from the boot menu. It scanned for a long while, not giving me any information, so I was unsure of whether or not it was actually doing anything. But then a box popped up asking if I wanted to restore the system to the last saved restore point. Since this was the only option given (with still no information about any errors found or anything!), I chose yes. The blue progress bar on the computer has now been going back and forth for half an hour without any information or progress reports...
I just wanted to record a three minute video. Like I've done before. But this time it completely trashed the system for some unfathomable reason. God, I hate Windows...
