VLC & DVB-S -> channels.conf

I want to use VLC as a player for DVB-S.

However, when I open VLC and open the channels.conf as playlist, it does not show any of the channels. I can only see the channels.conf itself in the playlist as title.
Same when I start vlc using

vlc channels.conf

from the console.

I use Ubuntu 10.04 64bit and tested with VLC 1.0.5 as well as 1.1.2

I generated the channels.conf using w_scan.
Example of the output:

CNBC Europe(CNBC):11597:v:0:22000:307:308:10030
BBC World(BBC):11597:v:0:22000:163:92:10050

Any guesses?
