    Can someone help me!
The .ppd file you're looking for should be located in /usr/share/ppd

Re: driver for canon pixma mp280 printer

Thank you thank you thank you!

I am super green with all things Linux, and have had a lot of trouble getting the various drivers in my laptop to "play nice" with Ubuntu (11.04). I felt accomplished in successfully searching the forums to get my machine in operating condition, but was struck with a slight sense of dread (mixed with a little excitement at a new challenge) when we got a new printer...

Your post and info. was easy to follow, and it worked perfectly! Thanks again!

Re: driver for canon pixma mp280 printer

I have read these posts, and they seem to help the original poster, but I'm still not getting the drivers installed on my Ubuntu 10.10 laptop. I have downloaded the drivers indicated in prior posts for this printer/scanner, and I have tried to install, but all the Terminal fires back at me is "An error occurred. The package management system cannot be identified.". I'm obviously doing it incorrectly, as I have installed numerous other applications, and drivers with the Terminal with no problems. I guess I need someone to hold my hand, and lead me through this. Can anyone help?

    Try this :
    Code:
    sudo dpkg -P alien rpm
Then launch the installation script again.

OK, I did what you recommended, and it appeared to be installing the drivers, but then it wanted to register the printer by detecting it from my network. It couldn't. It's funny, because Ubuntu can locate the printer on the network, but it doesn't have the correct drivers for it, but the installation of the correct drivers can't locate the printer. That's a weird one. Here is what I get in the Terminal installation process:

Command executed = sudo dpkg -iG /home/mandoman/cnijfilter-mp280series-3.40-1-deb/packages/cnijfilter-common_3.40-1_amd64.deb

Next, register the printer to the computer.
Connect the printer, and then turn on the power.
To use the printer on the network, connect the printer to the network.
When the printer is ready, press the Enter key.

    Turn off your printer.

Launch the script again and turn on your printer when you get the message "Register Printer". Then press Enter to search for your printer on the network.
