Recognising multi touch gestures from an external touchpad

    Hi there,

I bought an Ortek Smart Pad, convinced that I could make it work on Ubuntu 10.04.
Cursor movement and left/right click works out-of-the-box, and dmesg knows it's there.
But alas, I have been unsuccessful in finding a way to make Ubuntu recognise multi touch gestures.
There are drivers for Windows XP which enable this feature, so I reckon it's doable.

I've been messing around with Xorg and Synaptics drivers for a couple of days now.
But the system still classifies the pad as a mouse, which of course has no multi touch capabilities.

The ideal way would be to make it behave exactly as the built-in touchpad on my laptop.

Do any of you have the slightest idea on how to approach this?

would just like to bump this thread to see if anyone has any ideas, or if the OP has found a fix..

    Cheers
    Code:
    make me a sandwich
            no, make it yourself
    sudo make me a sandwich
            ok then...

Bump. Have the same prob with a Ebuyer wireless keyboard with touchpad which is just a re-branded Ortek one I believe. Tried all-sorts on both 10.04 and 10.10 even trying to force it to use different drivers but the system still thinks its a mouse. Which is silly as it works as a single touch touchpad plus it responds to a 3 finger click as a right click and 2 fingers will paste the last text that was highlighted (weird feature I know). Think the touch pad is manufactured by Elan which have plenty of working touchpads on linux.
