Question Guide to authenticate against Mac 10.6 Server's Open Directory?

Greetings - trying my first install of an ubuntu server. I want to configure the installation to authenticate against my office's Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 Open Directory server. I've found some pages that have some tips:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OS...Authentication
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LD...ght=%28ldap%29
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1348892

but on my first attempt I somehow locked myself out of the ubuntu server, as everytime I attempted to login, it asked for my Open Directory password that it didn't accept.

So, does anyone have step-by-step instructions of using an Open Directory OS X server (with Kerberos) to authenticate users on an ubuntu server? Packages to install, files to edit, the works. You'd be doing the internet a great service, as all of the guides out there aren't quite complete!
