I have a problem with the icons on the Desktop in Lubuntu (10.04). They are all aligned automatically, but I want to place them wherever I want on desktop. How can I do that? Is there an option that I missed?

well, you can drag them to where you want and then click right click the desktop
view -> align to grid
they'll stay where you want.
Whether or not they'll stay after you end your session I'm not sure...i don't have anything ON my desktop other than a terminal icon. =/
This is the problem, that I cannot drag them wherever I want, they just go back. And I don't have the option "View -> Align to grid" in the right-click menu. I have Linux Lubuntu (LXDE Ubuntu). I just don't have such commands in the right-click menu; probably Gnome has.
Does anyone know this problem? Is an LXDE charcateristic?
Try Right clicking on the desktop icons themselves. There are some options related to alignment there. It seems like you have to deal with each icon by itself though.
