Ubuntu on Macbook Pro 5,5

hi all,
I have a Macbook Pro 5,5 and I wonder how well Ubuntu works on it as well as how do I set up Ubuntu good on it so I don't have to reinstall the whole computer if I wanna remove it.
A Macbook isn't like a normal pc if ya know what I mean. How well does the partitioning work along side with the MacOS system?
