So I've tried every tutorial, created my own pon and poff configs, yelled at network manager for a few hours, and otherwise pulled my hair out on this one.
I want to connect from my laptop (lucid lynx) to my work's vpn (windows servers) so that I can control the machine by remote desktop. Step 1) get the vpn is causing my headaches.
The settings I have work on windows xp and on mac (snow leopard), but wont work on Ubuntu.
Network manager says the vpn failed to start. The Syslog barks about an invalid gateway.
Here's the full syslog output
Code:

I should note that the gateway is not called 'gateway' I actually put a value in it, but it always gives that message when connecting via network manager.
