Installing Directx 9.0c

I'm trying to install Directx 9.0c (jun 2010 redist) on my computer using wine because it's not a linux native thing. When I run it through wine in the terminal, I get this:

whenever it tries to copy a file from the installer.

Why are you trying to install directx9? If a game isn't running because of directx, then installing it probably won't help. Wine games generally use Wine's own implementation of directx (Direct3D or something).

You could try using Winetricks to install some directx9 dlls.

Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and type in

wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks

then type

sh winetricks d3dx9

You can try to install directx9 by putting directx9 instead of 'd3dx9' but it isn't recommended.

Also, just type sh winetricks for a GUI list off all things winetricks can do.

I was trying to run napoleon total war (required dx9) on my ubuntu system. I installed all the directx stuff in wine and still didn't work. I really want to run Napoleon (installed using wine) and it said it would work if I installed it regularly at WineHQ

Did you install the directx stuff with winetricks?

Apparently it can help to install dotnet2.0 as well.

If you downloaded winetricks the way I recommended then try this command

sh winetricks dotnet20

this showed up when i tried the run the game "the hunter". how do i fix this? i think the game needs directx.
