Angry Black screen after installing ATI drivers on MSI CX620

    Hello,
I bought my new notebook MSI CX620 with hybrid graphic cards:
    1. Intel i3 (in processor)
    and
    2. Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5470

When i want to install fgrlx into my Ubuntu 10.04.1 with new Catalyst 10.8 (i tried 10.7 too) everything finish fine. But after restarting (or insmod and X server restart) my screens stay black. Looks like something in running in background, but Numlock do not react, but disk activity is still blinking and shutdown button on the body of notebook works.

I attached Xorg config created by installer and Xorg log with error on line 158:

(EE) fglrx(0): Invalid video BIOS signature!
    (EE) fglrx(0): GetBIOSParameter failed
    (EE) fglrx(0): PreInitAdapter failed
    (EE) fglrx(0): PreInit failed

    Many thanks for fast respond.

P.S. What about hybrid graphic card support in ubuntu?

    Tomasz

I can not add atachments so:

Guess: Looking at the log your Intel bus is recognised as the primary device. I believe you can change that with the BIOS . I think it is in Onboard Peripherals and you may need to switch an option to discrete graphics card..

    Hi,
thank you for your answer, but in my bios is nothing to change. MSI bios functionaly looks like About GNOME dialog
    Could i change
    Code:
    Section "Device"
    	Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
    	Driver "fglrx"
    	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
on something else? or is any way to disable selectable cards? Because with ATI card active, my laptop stays on battery only for 1:30 hours

Re: Black screen after installing ATI drivers on MSI CX620

Switching between video cards is implemented in linux kernel 2.6.35, and it works with ubuntu 10.10 (beta) and fedora 14.
    More info here : http://asusm51ta-with-linux.blogspot.com/

It works for me (msi cx620-59fr-ubuntu64 10.10), but I don't try Catalyst driver yet.

Yeah, i tried switching with ubuntu 10.10 and it works! ... But Catalyst driver says, that kernel 2.6.35 is not yet supported.

Re: Black screen after installing ATI drivers on MSI CX620

there is a new BIOS version which make possible the choice between "switchable graphics" and the ATI card :
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=dow...5&prod_no=1985
I chose the ATI card, and now, catalyst 10.12 works fine !!
