* these are items I also have in my car, really good stuff to have in case of emergencies (I live in an earthquake-prone area). In the car I keep at least two gallons of drinking water; at home I maintain a stock of 16 gallons (good to plan on one gallon per person per day for at least seven days)+food. Don't mean to hijack this thread, but emergency preparedness is really important and when you need it it's too late. In a backpack there's usually room for a few survival necessities.
