Touchpad scrollfunction deactivated when disconnecting external mouse

First of all: I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong category. Moderators, move the topic at will

So to my problem. I have a Dell latitude D531 laptop which i connect to my docking station at home with external monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Problem is that when undocking, or disconnecting the mouse if you want, the scroll function of my touchpad gets deactivated and I have to reboot to get it to work.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with all updates applied. Does someone have a solution? Sometimes when waking up from suspend my panels freeze up so I run killall gnome-panel which does the trick. Is there a similar solution for mye touchpad problem?
