    External HDD adapter

    Hi all,

After my (still as yet unresolved) issue with my MP3 player (see here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...hlight=samsung) I'm going to go ahead and consult these frums for compatibility before buying any new hardware.

I have an old, but still perfectly functional, 180GB 2.5" HDD from an old machine that I want to use for data backup. I'm going to go out and buy an enclosure for it, either USB or Firewire if such things exist?

Can anyone recommend any such devices that are known to work in Ubuntu 9.10? The drive currently has old data on it that I have no need for, so I'm planning on doing a complete reformat.

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: External HDD adapter

I have 5 different USB external hdd enclosures, all different makes & they all work perfectly with Ubuntu.
Personally I'd stick with USB, never tried firewire.
Buy one & try it, if by chance it does not work take it back. Must keep original packaging in perfect condition & most stores will refund.
