SPDIF passthrough in MPlayer (working in VLC)

I'm having a problem with SPDIF (Digital Coaxial) passthrough isn't working in SMPlayer/MPlayer, when it's working in VLC Media Player.
The reason why I need SMPlayer is that it works better with Direct Rendering (V-sync).

    - Sound in MPlayer works when not using passthrough (2 channel).
    - DTS/AC3 works flawlessly in VLC

I'm not sure what I could try, since there aren't many settings in MPlayer or SMPlayer that I can try out.

Edit: And apparently MPlayer can't output to SPDIF at all, if I use a DTS/AC3 source and ouput 2 channel to SPDIF, then I just get some sort of weird static/clicking. Again, VLC works well. Please note that MPlayer can output non-AC3/DTS sources well.

Edit: Was apparently a problem with that one file, a later version of mkvtools was probably used. - Thanks to #mplayer at freenode.
