    Question Print quality / color

I have a Dell 3130cn color laser printer that was advertised as linux compatible. It does print, but the support seems a little weak (eg. when you print a document 10 times it sends the document to the printer 10 times instead of once with the instruction to print multiple copies).

Anyhow, my main complaint is that I'm getting crappy resolution. When I print images at 600 dpi, the result is not smooth - if you look closely, you can see jagged/pixely edges - as if the image has been resampled on the way to the printer. Text is fine. I've tried several different printer settings ("High Quality", "Enhanced Image Quality" etc). Anyone have any ideas what else I should do?

A second question, more directly related to Ubuntu... when I print from Evince, the colors are off - brighter than expected. When I print from Photoshop CS2 (run under WINE), the colors are as I would expect, equivalent to what I get when printing from Windows. What's up with Evince? Is it overriding my color settings?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Scott

If Ubuntu had 31 flavors then we could call it Baskin' Ubuntu.

Well, if I find a linux-compatible time machine, I'll buy an HP instead (:

    Re: Print quality / color

I just installed Ubuntu on my desktop computer. When I tried to print a color photo that I found online, it prints out in poor color. It looks like a lot of the vivid color is missing. I have a Samsung CLX 3175 printer.

Well, we buy nothing but HP and I can only get crappy image print quality. Text is perfect but images are totally unacceptable.

    Any ideas?
