I was hoping someone would know what's the route to take to squeeze all the performance out of this older architecture laptop video card on 10.04 Lucid. I would just like to get the video performance to where it is on Windows XP. i.e. I'd like to be able to play full screen video fluidly.

I'm pretty sure that there are new conflicts that have arisen due to the version of X.Org server not being compatible with the last supported ATI catalyst driver release (9.3). I think that's also why I don't see the driver popping up in the Restricted Drivers list like it did in previous versions of Ubuntu.

Is there a work-around? And if that route isn't available, what about these drivers I saw here: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

xserver-xorg-video-ati
xserver-xorg-video-radeon

And what about this driver i've heard about:

xf86-video-ati video

I don't even know where to get that one and how to install it. I have installed the ATI drivers using envy on previous versions of Ubuntu, but that option is no longer available. Any help is appreciated!
