Stupid question about importing settings in 10.04

Here's my question. I installed ubuntu via wubi, just to try it, and loved it. So much that when I go back to school this semester Im planning on picking up a Dell laptop built with the OS in mind. In the meantime though, Ive gotten pretty comfy with my setup (additional software, etc) on my desktop.
Is there any way I can import this type of stuff onto my new computer, or am I gonna hafta put in the footwork? I know this question may seem stupid to more experienced users, but I just got my first computer about 5 years ago, and have never owned more than one simultaneously, so the finer points of networking, etc are new to me. Thanks for your time!

+1 to that. Dedicated install is easy. You just need to know about the partitions a little and you are good to go.
