    Support PMs

They are so annoying, I mean telling someone "I don't know" is annoying to both, ignoring is rude and helping them is encouraging the behavior. Should I report them, or is that going to far?

Maybe I appear to friendly and helpful, but I really find it irritating.

    Re: Support PMs

On the rare occasion that I've had support PMs, I've been bothered by the same kind of question: ignore them and appear rude, or respond and risk encouraging them.

Sometimes a polite request to post in a thread about the question is sufficient. Another option is to set your user profile to accept messages only from contacts and staff.

i recently posted to a thread and had the OP message me in response. i asked him to post to the thread 3 times and he just kept messaging me. i think that maybe some people don't realize that the forum exists so that you can get help from a *community*,

I tell any one that asks for support via pm to give me a link to the thread, and if know anything about the problem I will answer in the thread.

    Re: Support PMs

I added a message in my signature and now ignore all support requests via PM. I used to get a lot of them. Now I get very few and don't feel bad about pretending they don't exist.

With such a low post count, I even get a few PM support requests. Though they never respond.

    Re: Support PMs

I usually don't mind trying to help out as long as they appear to have "tried" looking through the forums, but I usually just point them to a thread to get them started. I think helpful discussions in the public "help" more people than those via PM's, so I avoid PM solutions when possible.
