installing android sdk & adb in ubuntu 10.04 x64

I am learning how to develop in java and via android sdk and I need the necessary tools to work in ubuntu. i could use windows but I would prefer to use my ubuntu partition as i tend to work more efficiently in ubuntu.

I hope you develop sync with Kontact or Evolution and Android native PIM. I'm looking for that. Is anyone else? Seems only natural but non-existant.

I'm having to do a complete format and install of windows because Ubuntu cant talk to my android besides taking jpegs off. Needless to say i would rather not do this.
