Laptop INCOMPATIBILITY List.

Known Issues:
1. The fingerprint reader: it is not identified by OS
2. The VGA card: the laptop has a dual-type VGA card: the processor has it's own, and for more elaborated tasks (video, games) it has a AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6470M. When installing the ATI Catalist driver I'm informed that it's not a proper version of the driver. This might be correlated to something I've read on another forum that the Ati VGA is in fact a 6490, not 6470.

POOR COMPATIBILITY - - NOT RECOMMENDED - - CRITICAL TRACKPAD issues due to lack of x86-64 drivers.

Install from a USB stick, no problems. Wireless worked immediately. Running dual boot with Win7 Pro 64bit which I installed first. Problems that are not present in Win7 (i.e. its not a hardware fault):

• Trackpad right button does not work.
• Trackpad left button is part of the overall trackpad, this means that clicking often changes the pointer location by enough for you to 'miss' the object you wanted to click on, or much worse and more common, the pointer 'jumps' to the bottom left corner of the screen.
• Trackpad on-off button does not work.
• FINGERPRINT READER has no driver support at all.
• Will not come out of hibernation. Requires a forced power-down and reboot. Solved by requiring the computer to shut down on detecting critical battery.

HP were very unsupportive. They state that there are SuSe 32bit drivers for the trackpad. If thats your distro, fine, although on a machine that takes 8GB Ram, a 32bit OS is a strange choice. If you are using 64 bit linux then forget this laptop, its touchpad is junk until it gets driver support.

4. Big graphics driver bug with Nvidia 8600M GT (but not only that model).
This problem persists on a lot of nvidia cards. It's a compatibility issue with the kernel and the graphics drivers.

There are millions of laptop models affected (including an entire Macbook series) and I don't see why developers are neglecting this issue.

It seems 11.04 was pushed out of the door without being tested first just to meet the deadline.

Let's hope tot 3.0 kernel fixes this so a large group of users can get passed 10.04.

I have a Toshiba L455 with Ubuntu 10.04.
Ubuntu has an ongoing issue with cpu temperature on this, and my last laptop, a Dell Inspiron.
What do they keep doing to the kernel to cause this, and what can I do to help stop it?

With all Ubuntu based distributions, I have experienced complete freeze of the system. Only turning off is possible.
I've tried Ubuntu, Peppermint, Mint... This doesn't happen with OpenSuse, Puppy, Mandriva, Slitaz, PCLinuxOS on this hardware!

This 10 years old laptop has NVidia GeForce2, AMD 1.8 GHz, 512 Mb RAM.
I have tried some of the fixes from the forums (acpi, nohz, Vesa mode) from time to time, no solution up to now.

Problems: The graphic is not supported so that the theme is old theme like on Ubuntu 10.04. I like to have Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop but doesn't work. Any solutions?

2)Laptop Maker: Sony
3)Laptop Model: Vaio VGN-FW270J
4)Known Issue: laptop will not recover from suspend and hibernate. Instead, laptop reboots (i.e., Sony screen appears, GRUB appears, etc.)

The system uses an Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07).

I've tried some troubleshooting using the thread here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1144999. I haven't gotten all the way through it, but no luck so far.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.
